Sinn gets the press for hardened cases. Damasko hardens the whole thing — ice-hardened submarine steel through to the core, 60 HRC, bead-blasted so it can't be quietly polished into a different watch later. That case around a Valjoux 7750 day-date chronograph is the pitch: a German pilot's chrono for someone who actually wears their watches. The 7750 makes it wear tall, as they all do — fine from 6.5in wrists up, and the 20mm lugs take any strap you own. One flag: no outer box. Card, booklet, spare strap and pouch, no box — I'd rather tell you here than have you ask.

- Case: Clean. Bead-blasted surfaces show no dings or edge wear — and on matte-blasted steel there is nowhere for a mark to hide.

- Caseback: Engraving crisp. Two small specks at the screw recesses show in the macro photo — pictured, not hidden.
- Strap: Damasko black leather with contrast stitching and signed buckle, light creasing from wear. Spare Damasko rubber strap included, barely touched.
